1. How to apply
Applicants are already in employment and their employer usually makes contact. For an individual to become an Apprentice with baldwin training centre they must already be employed and have their employer's support. An application can then be made direct to baldwin training centre or through a careers (Connexions) personal adviser.
2. Are all applicants interviewed and if so where/how does this happen?
Yes, on the first visit to the employer's premises. The applicant is interviewed with the employer present also. An introduction to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) is offered at this stage so all parties know what is involved.
3. Does training take place at the work place or at other places as well?
NVQ training and assessment takes place in the work place. Training and assessment for technical certificates and key skills are delivered mainly through workshops at btc's premises in Eastbourne. btc actively encourage employers to support their staff in their training by giving staff time off for training.
4. Can a training programme be started at any point in the year?
Yes. All new applicants are invited to taster days which are held throughout the year.
5. How much do apprentices normally get paid?
This is between the employer and the employee
6. Are all apprentices employed from the start by their companies they train with?
Yes
7. What help is there in finding a job?
This service is not available. Most applicants are already employed before they become apprentices.
8. Do you keep lists of current job vacancies?
No
9. Are training programmes available to those people that are already employed?
Yes
10. Are applicants referred by Connexions Personal Advisers considered for training programmes?
Yes
11. Is it possible for applicants to be kept on a waiting list if a place on a training programme is not immediately available?
Yes
12. How should employers make contact?
Employers can make contact by phone, e-mail, web site or in writing. btc will talk to the employers about their training and recruitment requirements and help them train their existing employees. An NVQ help line is available outside office hours on 01323 484334.
13. Is there any charge to employers?
There is a charge for training for staff aged 25+. Funding for apprenticeships is subject to availability.
14. What other services are offered?
Commercial Care training for 25+, First Aid, Food Hygiene, Manual Handling, Induction and Foundation training, Learning and Development NVQ's including units required by Assessors, Internal Verifiers and Expert Witnesses
15. Are there any special entry requirements for the apprenticeships available through this organisation?
