1. How to apply

Contact Mel Hargreaves or Helen Mallows on apprenticeships@collyers.ac.uk or 01403 216566

2. Are all applicants interviewed and if so where/how does this happen?

All applicants will interviewed over the phone to ensure suitability for the programme, they will then be asked to come in the college during Welcome Days. If apprentices do not currently have a work placement, employers will interview them on site.

3. Does training take place at the work place or at other places as well?

All classroom based training takes place at Collyer’s College in Horsham although workplace observations also take please at the placement each fortnight.

4. Can a training programme be started at any point in the year?

Yes, although training programmes normally start in July each year.

5. How much do apprentices normally get paid?

Normally we encourage employers to pay the normal salary for that role although, whilst completing an Apprenticeship, some apprentices will get £95 per week. All Advanced Apprentices get a normal salary.

6. Are all apprentices employed from the start by their companies they train with?

Most apprentices are employed from July / August with their employer or from whenever they start the programme if starting mid year. If there are no placements available at that time then we will support the apprentice to find a placement whilst we provide their initial classroom based training. To complete the NVQ, apprentice must be in a work placement. We review apprentice positions every 6 months and if an apprentice has still not found a placement then their apprenticeship may be put on hold until a placement becomes available for them to complete it.

7. What help is there in finding a job?

Workshops are held with Helen Mallows each term. All apprentices are asked to hand in their CV and covering letter which we will give to employers.

8. Do you keep lists of current job vacancies?

Yes

9. Are training programmes available to those people that are already employed?
